Just watched: Uncut Gems 🍿

What an absolute thrill this movie was. Adam Sandler’s performance delivered on everything I was expecting from reviews I’d read and watched in the last few weeks. I loved the pace, the style and the music. 10/10

Finished reading: Happy: Why More or Less Everything is Absolutely Fine by Derren Brown πŸ“š

I seemed to subscribe to a lot of the life lessons Derren Brown presented in this book, but found it interesting taking a new perspective on what had, over time, become a normal approach for me. Similar in it’s approach to the stoic lessons I learned in Atomic Habits by James Clear, presented with more delight. 7/10

I’ve really enjoyed my reading challenge so far this year. I flew through my first 3 books in as many weeks, but hit a stumbling block going in to the 4th. I chose ‘War of the Worlds’ as my next read, but have struggled immensely with the age if the writing, which has led me to not pick up the book and engage with it as much as the last few.

I’ve decided to put ‘War of the Worlds’ on hold and come back to it another time. For now I’ve opted to start reading ‘Wool’, the first in a series I’ve been recommended a number of times.

Just watched: The Martian 🍿

Last night we re-watched The Martian, this time with the kids. I absolutely love this film, we listened to the audio book in 2013 (one of the best audio books I’ve had the pleasure of listening to). The film adaptation doesn’t disappoint, although I do with we’d seen a ‘Disco Watney’ poster for the film on it’s release.

Just watched: Long Shot 🍿

Loved this movie, the kind of feel good film we don’t get very often at the moment.

Finished reading: I, Robot by Isaac Asimov πŸ“š

I’m massively guilty of thinking I know a story because I’ve seen the film. That was one of the things I was aware of when setting myself the goal of ready consistently this year. I was absolutely blown away by how much more there was to this story than the film selected to use as inspiration. Asimov’s writing style is incredibly concise which leaves room for massive amounts of narrative in a small space. I loved the neo-futuristic feel to the characters and setting, and how he explored psychology so thoroughly. 10/10.

Finished reading: Atomic Habits by James Clear πŸ“š

I actually listened to the audio version of this book, read by the author, James Clear. I overall enjoyed the book, it aligned with my general approach to maintaining goods habits and considering the type of person I want to be rather than a goal I want to achieve. Heavily marred by the number of times the author recommends his own website.

Finished reading: Armada by Ernest Cline πŸ“š

I love Ernest Cline’s writing style. Being such a fan of Ready Player One I had high expectations for this book. Acts 1 & 2 were fantastic, but it feels like act 3 was a representation of how quickly the author had to make good on his publishing agreement rather than deliver on a good story. As the number of pages remaining decreased, the amount of story left to tell grew with the complete inverse.

Sunday’s were meant for brunch and books. Glad we finally get to spend our weekends with Charleigh again ❀️
